All About the Music
People who have never seen a Shorty performance inevitably ask...
What Kind of Music Do You Play?
Perhaps they are looking for a single word to define a particular genre. That doesn’t work well with Shorty. The single word he may be thinking is “good”, but the single word they usually get is “eclectic”. He’ll then elaborate: A little Blues, a little Rock, some Swing, some Country, healthy doses of Americana and British Invasion. You’ll hear a lot of songs you know, covers of famous songs, but with a unique interpretation. You’ll also hear a lot of songs for the first time…songs with timeless melodies and poignant lyrics. And you’ll hear some original songs, some of his own, and many by songwriter friends, who are very talented, but sometimes under-appreciated.
Most Importantly...
Shorty believes the true mission of music performance is to communicate with, and inspire the soul of the listener. That’s a pretty tall order, not too often achieved. But when it happens it makes all the effort worthwhile, and Shorty believes it can truly make our world a better place.

Sometimes people see Shorty as a sort of music historian. He doesn’t view himself as such. But likes to give audiences a little more context and perspective about the songs he performs. He hopes the audience will leave his shows with a bit more information about the artists, the songwriters, and the earlier performers of the songs he is presenting. He’s certainly not an encyclopedia of music history. But he does learn a bit more about the songs he performs, and shares that with the audience for a more uniquely meaningful music experience.
